Our largest UPS catalogue: 1,198 Tripp Lite SKUs spanning SmartPro line-interactive rackmounts, SmartOnline double-conversion for data centres, and SU modular three-phase for campus deployments. 500 VA to 80 kVA. Nationwide shipping with Canadian warranty support.
Tripp Lite (now part of Eaton) has been building power-protection hardware in North America since 1922 and ships one of the broadest single-phase UPS catalogs on the market — more than a thousand active SKUs spanning entry-level standby units, rackmount line-interactive towers, and double-conversion online systems up to 20 kVA. The brand's sweet spot is the mid-market rack: IT closets, education labs, AV installations, and POS environments where the install base historically standardised on SmartPro or OmniVS units.
UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA stocks over 1,000 Tripp Lite part numbers across every active family plus the matching replacement batteries — no cross-border brokerage, no US-dollar surprises at checkout. For the broader catalog including APC, Eaton, and Vertiv, see our UPS systems collection.
Tripp Lite's family naming is less consistent than APC's — the same chassis can ship under different series names depending on region and vintage. The table below maps every current Tripp Lite UPS family to the load it was built for, using the model-prefix conventions that appear on the unit labels.
| Family | Model prefix | VA range | Topology | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Internet Office | INTERNET, TE | 350 VA – 750 VA | Standby (offline) | Home PCs, modems, entry POS |
| OmniVS / OmniPro | OMNI, OMNIVS | 300 VA – 1500 VA | Standby or line-interactive | Desktops, workstations, small AV |
| AVR Series | AVR | 550 VA – 1500 VA | Line-interactive w/ AVR | Small office, brownout-prone regions |
| SmartPro | SMART, SM | 500 VA – 5000 VA | Line-interactive | Servers, network racks, POS |
| SmartOnline | SU, SUINT | 750 VA – 20 kVA | Double-conversion online | Medical, VoIP, industrial control, edge compute |
| SmartOnline S3M | S3M, S3MX | 10 kVA – 80 kVA | Three-phase double-conversion | Data centres, large facilities |
For most SMB server-rack buyers the shortlist narrows to two families: SmartPro (line-interactive, line-voltage in, C13/C14 out, 2U rack or convertible chassis) for standard IT loads, and SmartOnline SU-series (double-conversion online, zero transfer time, regenerated sine wave) for medical, VoIP, and any load that can't tolerate the 2–4 ms line-interactive transfer.
Every Tripp Lite UPS is rated in both volt-amps (VA) and watts (W). You must check both. VA is the apparent power the UPS can deliver; watts is the real power your equipment actually draws. Older SmartPro models typically run a 0.6 power factor — a SMART1500LCD is 1500 VA but only 900 W. Current SmartOnline SU-series runs a 0.9 power factor, and the newest SU-series models for 6 kVA and above are unity PF (VA equals watts). Blade servers, GPU workstations, and modern IT loads draw close to unity, so an older 0.6-PF UPS that looks big enough on paper will trip on overload.
Add up the nameplate wattage of every device that will plug into the UPS, multiply by 1.25 for a growth buffer, and pick a UPS whose watt rating exceeds that number — then check the VA rating still has headroom. For a guided walkthrough, our UPS sizing guide works through the math with worked examples.
Tripp Lite builds in three topologies:
Standby (offline): Used on Internet Office and entry-level OmniVS. The UPS passes utility power straight through and switches to battery when the line drops. Transfer time is 6–10 ms. Acceptable for home desktops; unacceptable for servers.
Line-interactive: Used on AVR Series, SmartPro, and higher-tier OmniVS. An automatic voltage regulator corrects brownouts and surges without touching the battery, extending battery life in regions with unstable grid voltage. Transfer time is 2–4 ms. See our Tripp Lite UPS collection to filter by family.
Double-conversion online: Used on SmartOnline SU-series and S3M three-phase. The load runs permanently from the inverter, so transfer time is effectively zero and output voltage/frequency are fully regenerated. This is the required topology for medical equipment, VoIP PBX systems, and any three-phase input. Read line-interactive vs online UPS for the decision criteria.
Tripp Lite ships four physical formats: tower, 1U–6U rackmount, rack/tower convertible (most SmartPro and SmartOnline units), and floor-standing cabinet (S3M three-phase). Rail kits ship with the rackmount and convertible SKUs. The 2U rack/tower convertible is the most common choice for small server rooms because one chassis covers both deployment scenarios.
The eight SKUs below represent the bulk of Canadian SMB purchases across the SmartPro and SmartOnline lines. Use this as a quick-reference shortlist; full specs and live stock are on the individual product pages.

Every model above ships with PowerAlert management software. SmartOnline SU-series units include an SNMP-capable card slot; on SmartPro the SNMP card is an add-on accessory (SNMPWEBCARD).
Tripp Lite uses the RBC (Replacement Battery Cartridge) naming convention — the same abbreviation APC uses, but the numbers don't cross-reference. Every SmartPro, SmartOnline, and OmniVS ships with the Tripp Lite RBC number printed on the unit label and listed in the user manual; that number is the only correct replacement reference. Common cartridges include RBC51 (fits OmniVS1500XL and SMART1500LCD), RBC24-2U (fits SMART1500RMXL2U), and RBC94-2U (fits SMART3000RM2U).
Tripp Lite RBC cartridges ship pre-assembled with the correct connector, correct voltage stack, and a warranty period matching the UPS. Compatible third-party cartridges cost less but should be matched carefully on voltage, amp-hours, and connector — see our full UPS replacement batteries collection for the matrix.
Every Tripp Lite UPS sold by UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA ships from a Canadian warehouse with full manufacturer warranty — typically two years on the UPS and two years on the battery for SmartPro, three years on SmartOnline. Our team handles pre-sales sizing, RMA coordination, and post-installation commissioning questions.
For most line-interactive SmartPro installations, the unit ships ready to plug in — attach the battery connector, fit the rail kit, and connect PowerAlert. For SmartOnline SU-series 5 kVA and above, hard-wire input may be required and should be completed by a licensed electrician per CSA. Three-phase S3M installations require commissioning by a qualified technician.
SmartPro is line-interactive: a 2–4 ms transfer to battery with AVR correcting brownouts between events. SmartOnline is double-conversion online: zero transfer time, fully regenerated output. SmartOnline costs more per VA but is the only acceptable topology for medical equipment, VoIP systems, and any critical load that can't tolerate brief transfer gaps. For standard server and network-closet use, SmartPro is the right fit.
Add up the nameplate wattage of every device, multiply by 1.25 for a growth buffer, and pick a UPS whose watt rating (not VA rating) exceeds that number. A single 1U server at 400 W plus a switch at 80 W plus a firewall at 40 W equals 520 W × 1.25 = 650 W — a SMART1500LCD (900 W) is the minimum fit. Our UPS sizing guide walks through the full method.
Yes and no. Eaton acquired Tripp Lite in 2021, and the Tripp Lite brand now operates as part of Eaton's Electrical sector. All new product development is coordinated with Eaton engineering, but Tripp Lite-branded SKUs continue to ship under the Tripp Lite name with their own model numbers, replacement-battery naming, and PowerAlert management software. If you are replacing an existing Tripp Lite unit, stay on the Tripp Lite side; if you are specifying a new-build data centre at scale, compare both Tripp Lite SmartOnline S3M and Eaton 9PX/9SX platforms.
Tripp Lite rates its sealed lead-acid batteries for three to five years of useful life in a climate-controlled environment (20–25 °C). High ambient temperature is the single largest factor that shortens life — every 8 °C above 25 °C roughly halves battery life. PowerAlert and the front-panel LCD will flag the battery once internal impedance crosses the threshold. Replace promptly once that warning appears.
On every current SmartPro, SmartOnline SU-series, and most OmniVS models, the battery cartridge is user-replaceable and hot-swappable — you can swap it while the UPS continues to protect the load. Always use the Tripp Lite RBC part number listed on the unit label, and follow the front-panel prompt to reset the battery install date so PowerAlert can recalculate runtime.
Yes. The majority of the SmartPro and SmartOnline lines ship in 2U or 3U rack/tower convertible chassis with rail kits included. Common rackmount SKUs include SMART1500RMXL2U, SMART3000RM2U, SU1500RTXL2UA, and SU3000RTXL3U. For a full list see our Tripp Lite UPS collection and filter by chassis.
