What is XPC line-interactive UPS?

Line-interactive UPS keeps the load on utility power most of the time and uses an autotransformer with boost/buck Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to correct sustained low or high voltage without engaging the battery. On a true outage, transfer to battery is fast — typical for the segment. The right fit for office workstations, server rooms, network closets, branch IT, and most general-purpose commercial loads.

XPC has two distinct line-interactive lines: S71 entry tower 700 VA to 1.5 kVA for office and small networking, and P80 / P80g sinewave 800 VA up to 5 kVA for server rooms and dense racks. How to choose

S71 vs P80

S71 is the entry segment — simulated sine output, USB only, 3-year warranty. P80 is a generation up — pure sinewave on battery, optional SNMP / MODBUS / Relay cards, support for external battery packs. For any rack server, NAS, or VoIP device, choose P80. For a single workstation or office router, S71 is sufficient.

P80 vs P80g

P80 is 120 V single-phase up to 3 kVA. P80g is 208/230 V — typically required at 5 kVA and selected at 3 kVA for sites with 208 V rack distribution. P80g uses IEC C20 inlet and ships with output PDU options including 6-15/20R, L6-20R, and L6-30R locking outputs. Step up to XPC 208/230 V UPS for the broader 208 V catalog.

When to leave line-interactive

Move to T91 / P91 online when load can't tolerate transfer time (medical, VoIP, precision lab, industrial control), when galvanic isolation is required, or when utility frequency drift exceeds line-interactive AVR correction range. Read line-interactive vs online UPS.

S71 power factor is 0.6 — 1500 VA / 900 W. P80 / P80g 0.9 PF — 3000 VA / 2700 W. Add nameplate watts of all loads, multiply by 1.25 buffer, pick UPS whose watt rating exceeds. UPS sizing guide.

Replacement batteries and EBPs

P80-1500 / 2000 use the P90-BP48 extended battery pack; P80-2200 / 3000 / P80g-3000 use the P90-BP72; P80g-5000 uses the P80-BP72X. Each EBP roughly extends runtime in proportion to added Ah. FAQ

Pure sine on battery?

Yes on P80 and P80g — pure sinewave output. S71 produces simulated sine on battery (acceptable for most desktop and office equipment but not recommended for active-PFC server PSUs).

Can I add network monitoring?

P80 / P80g include an SNMP card slot. Optional SNMP-2PV3 internal card adds web management, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and integration with VMware, Hyper-V, Linux, Windows shutdown agents. MODBUS-IN card available for industrial / BMS deployments. S71 has external SNMP-USB option.

Add runtime to P80?

Yes. P80-1500 / 2000 accepts P90-BP48 extended battery pack. P80-2200 / 3000 / P80g-3000 use P90-BP72. P80g-5000 uses P80-BP72X. Each pack roughly doubles available runtime; multiple stack on most P80 SKUs. XPC battery packs.

Why does P80 have a 0.9 PF spec?

0.9 PF means a 3000 VA P80 delivers 2700 W. Modern dense IT loads draw close to unity PF, so the watt number is what matters. Don't size on VA alone. UPS sizing guide.

Hot-swap batteries?

P80 series supports cartridge swap on most SKUs. S71 typically requires brief load transfer to bypass for cartridge change — confirm by model.

P80g 230 V on a Canadian site?

Yes — P80g operates on 208/220/230/240 V input. Most Canadian commercial 208 V three-phase services derive a 208 V single-phase to feed the UPS. Hard-wire / locking receptacle install by licensed electrician per CSA.
