The Eaton 5S is a compact tower UPS series for PCs, workstations and point-of-sale gear, available in line-interactive and standby topologies from 550 VA / 330 W up to 1500 VA / 900 W. Genuine Eaton, shipped from our Canadian warehouse.
The Eaton 5S is Eaton's compact tower battery-backup line for desktops, workstations, point-of-sale terminals, network gear and other single-PC-class loads. It sits at the entry level of the Eaton 5-Series, below the 5SC and 5PX, and is built for homes and small businesses that need clean shutdown protection and surge defense rather than data-center-grade runtime. Models in this collection span 550 VA / 330 W up to 1500 VA / 900 W, in both standby and line-interactive topologies, all in a slimline tower chassis that mounts vertically or horizontally.
The table below is built from each unit's published specifications. Where a unit isn't listed here, see the full range below.

Size by watts, not just VA. The VA rating is the apparent-power ceiling; the watt rating is the real power your equipment actually draws. Add up the wattage of everything you intend to back up and pick a 5S whose watt rating comfortably exceeds that total — for example the 5S1500LCD delivers 900 W, while the smaller 5S1000LCD is rated for 600 W. Leave headroom so the UPS isn't running at 100% load.
Set realistic runtime expectations. The 5S is designed for ride-through and graceful shutdown, not extended operation. At full load every model in this series delivers roughly 1–3 minutes; at half load that stretches to about 9.5–14 minutes. If you need to keep running through a long outage, you want a different class of UPS — the 5S exists to save your work and shut down cleanly.
Topology — standby vs line-interactive. Standby models (5S550, 5S700, 5S700G, 5S1500G) switch to battery when input power fails and are ideal for basic PC and POS protection. Line-interactive models (5S700LCD, 5S1000LCD, 5S1500LCD) add automatic voltage regulation (AVR), correcting brownouts and over-voltage without draining the battery — a better fit where mains power sags or fluctuates.
Form factor. Every 5S in this series is a tower unit; there is no rack option in this line. The slimline chassis can stand vertically beside a desk or lie horizontally under a monitor.
Every Eaton 5S in this collection carries Eaton's standard 3-year warranty. Units are genuine Eaton, stocked and shipped from our Canadian warehouse, so you avoid cross-border duties and delays and get Canadian support on your order.

What's the difference between the standby and line-interactive 5S models?
Standby models switch to battery only when input power fails. Line-interactive models (the LCD variants here) add automatic voltage regulation, smoothing out brownouts and surges without using battery — better for areas with unstable mains power.
How long will a 5S run my equipment?
It depends on load. Across this series, expect roughly 1–3 minutes at full load and about 9.5–14 minutes at half load. The 5S is built for clean shutdown and short ride-through, not extended runtime.
Can I add external battery packs for longer runtime?
No. The 5S series is not designed for extended-runtime battery modules; runtime is fixed by the internal battery. For external-battery support, step up to a higher Eaton 5-Series family such as the 5PX.
Should I size my UPS by VA or by watts?
Use watts as the binding limit — total the real wattage of your equipment and choose a model whose watt rating exceeds it, leaving headroom. VA is the apparent-power ceiling and is usually higher than the watt rating.
Is the warranty valid in Canada?
Yes. These are genuine Eaton units shipped from our Canadian warehouse and carry Eaton's standard 3-year warranty.
