The APC Back-UPS ES series is APC's entry-level standby (offline) UPS line for desktops, home offices, networking gear, and point-of-sale, spanning roughly 550-900 VA / 330-540 W in a compact tower form factor. Genuine APC by Schneider Electric, shipped from our Canadian warehouse.
The APC Back-UPS ES series is APC by Schneider Electric's entry-level battery backup line, built around standby (offline) topology. It is designed for desktop PCs, home offices, Wi-Fi routers and modems, small networking equipment, and point-of-sale terminals — the kind of single-workstation loads that need clean shutdown protection and surge defense rather than continuous power conditioning. Within the broader APC lineup, the Back-UPS ES sits below the line-interactive Back-UPS Pro and the Smart-UPS family, trading advanced regulation for a lower price and a simple, compact footprint. Models in this series run from about 550 VA / 330 W up to 900 VA / 540 W, all in a tower / desktop form factor with a simulated (stepped) sine wave output.
| Model | VA / W | Topology | Form factor | Runtime ½ / full | Outlets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BE550G | 550 VA / 330 W | Standby | Tower / desktop | 13.5 min / 3.3 min | 8 × NEMA 5-15R |
| BE700G3 | 700 VA / 420 W | Standby | Tower / wall-mount | — | 6 × NEMA 5-15R (4 battery backup + 2 surge) |
| BE850G2 | 850 VA / 450 W | Standby | Tower / desktop | 11.0 min / 2.0 min | NEMA 5-15R |
| BE900G3 | 900 VA / 540 W | Standby | Tower / desktop | — | 8 × NEMA 5-15R (6 battery backup + 2 surge) |
A 230 V variant (BE700G-GR) is also available for non-North-American outlets. See the full range below for current models, pricing, and availability.
VA vs. watts. A UPS is rated in both volt-amps (VA) and watts (W); your equipment must stay under both figures. Watts is the real limit for modern PCs and network gear, so size to the wattage first. Add up the wattage of everything you want on battery, then pick a model with headroom above that total — for example, a desktop plus a monitor and a router typically lands well within the 330-540 W range these units provide.
Runtime expectations. Standby UPS systems in this class are built for ride-through and graceful shutdown, not for running equipment for hours. At roughly half load expect on the order of 11-14 minutes, and only a few minutes at full load. That is enough to save work and shut down cleanly through a typical brief outage or to bridge to a generator. The Back-UPS ES models are not designed for external extended-runtime battery packs; if you need long runtime, step up to a line-interactive or online APC series.
Topology. The entire Back-UPS ES series is standby: it runs equipment from utility power and switches to battery on an outage. This is the right, cost-effective choice for home and small-office loads. If you have sensitive equipment that demands automatic voltage regulation under brownouts, or you are protecting servers and continuous-operation systems, look at line-interactive (Back-UPS Pro / Smart-UPS) or double-conversion online APC families instead.
Form factor. Every model here is a compact tower / desktop unit; the BE700G3 can also be wall- or floor-mounted. There are no rackmount units in this series.
These are genuine APC by Schneider Electric units carrying APC's manufacturer warranty (3 years on current G3 models). We stock and ship from our Canadian warehouse, so you avoid cross-border duties and long lead times, and our team can help you size the right model for your equipment.

Is the Back-UPS ES a pure sine wave UPS? No. The Back-UPS ES series outputs a simulated (stepped approximated) sine wave, which is fine for the desktop, networking, and POS loads it targets. If you have equipment that specifically requires pure sine wave, choose a higher APC series.
Can I add an external battery for longer runtime? No. The Back-UPS ES models are not designed for extended-runtime battery packs. For long runtime, step up to a line-interactive or online APC family.
What size do I need? Total the wattage of the equipment you want on battery, then choose a model whose watt rating comfortably exceeds it. Most single-PC-plus-network setups fit within the 330-540 W range these units provide.
Are these genuine APC units? Yes. Every unit is genuine APC by Schneider Electric, shipped from our Canadian warehouse with the manufacturer warranty.
Is the battery user-replaceable? It varies by model. Some current G3 units have a non-user-replaceable internal battery; older models such as the BE550G and BE850G2 use replaceable cartridges. Check the individual product page, and see our replacement-battery hub for the correct cartridge.
