The Liebert PowerSure line is a family of UPS units originally sold under Emerson Network Power and now part of the Vertiv portfolio. It spans the PSP off-line, PSA line-interactive (ProActive), and PSI line-interactive (InterActive) series, in mini-tower and rack/tower (RT) chassis. Every unit relies on sealed lead-acid (SLA/VRLA, AGM) batteries that wear out over time and need periodic replacement to keep runtime and protection intact. Battery type and how packs scale

PowerSure UPS units use maintenance-free sealed lead-acid AGM cells. A single block is most commonly 12V, with capacities such as 7.2Ah or 9.0Ah depending on the chassis; some models instead use 6V blocks (for example a 6V 12Ah cell) and string multiple batteries in series to reach the internal DC bus voltage. Because voltage and amp-hour rating change from model to model, the correct kit is determined by your exact UPS model number, not by a single universal spec. Identify your battery by exact model

Find the model number on the label on the rear or underside of your UPS (for example PS1000RT3-120XRW, PSA650MT-230, or PS3000RT2-120). Match that exact string to the product in this collection. If your label shows a suffix or voltage variant (-120 vs -230, RT2 vs RT3), choose the product that names your exact suffix, since the battery count and capacity can differ between otherwise similar models.

Genuine OEM vs aftermarket

Genuine OEM kits are sourced through Vertiv and carry the manufacturer's branding and premium. Aftermarket kits use equivalent AGM cells built to meet or exceed the original voltage, capacity, and terminal specification at lower cost. Both are valid choices: OEM for strict warranty or service-contract requirements, aftermarket for value. Expected lifespan

UPS batteries typically last 3-5 years. Heat is the dominant factor: as a rule of thumb, life roughly halves for about every 8°C of sustained operating temperature above 25°C. A unit in a warm closet or rack will need fresh batteries sooner than one in a cooled room. Plan a proactive swap toward the end of that window rather than waiting for a failed self-test.

Replacement steps

1. Note your exact model number and order the matching kit.
2. The mini-tower PSP and PSA series use a user-replaceable battery compartment accessed by removing a cover plate on the rear or underside; no tools are required. The rack/tower PSI (RT) series are designed for front-accessible battery service.
3. Many PowerSure units are designed for battery replacement while the UPS continues to run on mains (hot-swap). Confirm hot-swap support in your model's manual before attempting it; if your unit is not rated for hot-swap, shut the UPS down and disconnect it from the wall before opening the battery compartment.
4. Remove the battery cover, disconnect the old pack, and remove it.
5. Insert the new pack, reconnect the leads (observe polarity), refit the cover, and run a UPS self-test.
6. Recycle the old lead-acid batteries at an approved facility.
