What an extended battery module does

An extended battery module (EBM) is an external battery pack that plugs into a compatible UPS to multiply its runtime. The UPS keeps managing the power; the EBM simply adds capacity, so a few minutes of internal runtime can become 30 minutes, an hour, or more, enough to ride through longer outages or shut systems down cleanly.

EBMs connect to the UPS (and to each other when chained) with a dedicated battery connector, no load interruption to add capacity on most platforms.
