The APC Smart-UPS SRT family is a line of online (double-conversion) uninterruptible power supplies built for servers, network closets and other always-on equipment. Like every UPS in this class, the SRT relies on a string of sealed lead-acid (VRLA / AGM) batteries that carry the load during an outage. Those batteries wear out long before the electronics do, so periodic replacement keeps the unit ready to protect your equipment.
SRT units use maintenance-free sealed lead-acid cells wired into a series string. The voltage and amp-hour rating of that string depend on the specific model. Across the SRT range the string voltage is not the same from one unit to the next: smaller models, larger models and the external battery pack each run different configurations, and the amp-hour capacity varies as well. Because of this, there is no single voltage or amp-hour figure that applies to the whole series.
Do not assume a spec. Confirm the correct kit by matching your exact UPS model number. Each product page in this collection lists the voltage, amp-hour rating and the model(s) it fits, so use the product grid to verify the match before ordering rather than relying on a figure quoted for a different model.
The model number is printed on a label on the rear or underside of the UPS (for example, SRT1500XLA, SRT3000RMXLT-5KTF, SRT6KRMXLT, SRT8KXLT-5KTF, SRT10KXLT-IEC or SRT192RMBP for the external battery pack). Read the full string, including any suffix, and match it to the product titles and compatibility notes shown in the grid. Suffixes matter: two units that look similar can take different battery kits.
Genuine APC Replacement Battery Cartridges (the APCRBC / RBC part numbers) are sold by the manufacturer and carry their branding and warranty. Aftermarket kits are compatible replacements built to the same physical and electrical specification, typically at a lower cost. Both use the same VRLA cell chemistry. The batteries in this collection are aftermarket compatible replacements unless a listing states otherwise. The deciding factor for fit is always the model match and the correct voltage/Ah, not the brand on the label.
SLA UPS batteries typically last 3 to 5 years in service. Heat is the dominant factor: as a rule of thumb, every 8 C (about 15 F) of sustained temperature above 25 C roughly halves battery life. Keeping the UPS in a cool, ventilated location and replacing the pack on schedule prevents a dead battery from being discovered during the next outage.
Smart-UPS SRT systems are rack/tower online units, so their battery modules are designed to be hot-swappable: you can replace the cartridges while the UPS continues to run on utility power, which keeps your connected load protected during the swap. (Hot-swapping applies to rack, Smart-UPS and online models like the SRT. It does not apply to desktop or Back-UPS units, which must be powered down first.) General steps:
The external SRT192RMBP pack and the larger SRT units carry dangerous DC voltage. If you are not comfortable working around it, have a qualified technician perform the swap.
How do I know which battery my SRT needs? Match the exact model number on your UPS label to a product in this collection. The grid lists the voltage, amp-hours and compatible model(s) for each kit.
Can I replace the battery while the UPS is running? Yes. The SRT is an online rack/tower system with hot-swappable modules, so it keeps protecting your load during the swap. Desktop and Back-UPS units are different and must be shut down first.
How long will the new batteries last? Typically 3 to 5 years, shorter in warm environments since heat roughly halves life for every 8 C above 25 C.
Are aftermarket batteries safe to use? Yes, when they match the required voltage, amp-hour rating and physical fit for your model. They use the same sealed lead-acid chemistry as the OEM cartridges.
Do you ship to Canada? Yes. Orders ship from our Canadian warehouse with fast Canada-wide delivery.
