What is a battery pack / EBP?

An External Battery Pack (EBP) is a chassis of additional UPS-rated batteries that connects to a compatible UPS via a rear bus cable or terminal connection. The UPS treats the EBP as additional internal capacity — runtime extends in proportion to total Ah added. Each EBP roughly doubles runtime at a given load. Multiple EBPs stack on most XPC P91 and T91 SKUs to extend ride-through to half an hour or more, and TX91-BP960 packs scale TX91 isolated UPS to as much as 8 hours of ride-through per XPC's published runtime curves.

How to choose

How much runtime do I need?

Site with generator: 5–10 minutes covers genset start and stabilization. Site without generator: 15–30 minutes for graceful shutdown and replication failover. For TX91 isolated UPS: up to 8 hours ride-through is achievable with TX91-BP960-3 packs across the chassis. Past ~30 minutes the math typically tilts toward genset over batteries. P91 1–3 kVA: typically 1–2 packs. P91 5 / 6 / 10 kVA: BPXR packs hot-swappable. T91 1–3 kVA: up to 7 BP per UPS. TX91 3.8–10 kVA: up to 3 BP-960 packs per UPS. J90-2K / 3K Li: J90-EBP48 lithium for matched lithium runtime. M90 / X90: site-engineered string sizing in matching battery cabinets.

Compatibility

Every EBP is matched to a specific UPS series and VA range — connector, voltage, and battery configuration are all model-specific. P91-BP36 does not work on P91-3000. SLA vs lithium EBP

P91-BP, T91-BP, BPXR, P80-BP, TX91-BP960, M90-BC, X90-BC: SLA. Lower sticker, 4–5 year battery service life, replace alongside the UPS internal cartridge at end-of-life. J90-EBP48 lithium for J90: matched LiFePO₄, 15-year service life, eliminates one full battery replacement over deployment. Match chemistry to UPS — never mix SLA EBP on a lithium UPS or vice versa.

Internal cartridges and disclosure

SLA EBPs in stock are compatible aftermarket built to identical V, Ah, terminal, and connector spec as factory packs. 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty. Lithium EBPs (J90-EBP48 and Li90 modules) are factory XPC only — UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA does not stock aftermarket lithium because BMS firmware must match the UPS at manufacture. Installation and warranty

EBPs connect via rear bus cable to the UPS. Hot-pluggable on most P91, BPXR, T91, TX91, M90, X90 packs — connect to running UPS without powering down protected load. Tower-stand or rack-rail kit included on rack/tower packs. New SLA EBPs ship with manufacturer warranty (terms vary by series). J90-EBP48 lithium ships with 6-year warranty. How much does one EBP extend runtime?

Roughly doubles runtime at a given load — proportional to total Ah added. P91-1500 with stock battery + P91-BP36: ~2× stock runtime. Add a second BP — quadruples. Past 2× returns diminish on smaller chassis because UPS internal voltage regulator and inverter limits become binding before pure capacity.

Can I stack multiple EBPs?

P91 1–3 kVA: typically 1–2 BP per UPS. T91: up to 7 BP per UPS — major runtime extension. P91 5–10 kVA: BPXR packs as needed. TX91: up to 3 BP-960 packs. J90 lithium: 1× J90-EBP48 supported. Confirm by model.

Hot-plug an EBP onto a running UPS?

Yes on most P91, T91, TX91, M90, X90 packs — designed for live attach via rear bus cable or pluggable connector. UPS detects the additional capacity automatically.

Mix SLA and lithium EBP?

No. Never mix. Chemistry, voltage, charge curve, and BMS firmware are all model-specific. Match SLA EBP to SLA UPS, lithium EBP (J90-EBP48) to lithium UPS (J90 / J90i 2K / 3K).

Replace an EBP cartridge?

Yes for SLA — internal SLA cartridges in P91-BP, BPXR, T91-BP, TX91-BP960, M90 / X90 modules replace via tool-less front-access door, just like the main UPS cartridge. How to install UPS battery. Lithium J90-EBP48 is sealed and replaced as a complete unit when the BMS reports end-of-life.

Do I need an electrician to add an EBP?

No — EBP connects to UPS via supplied bus cable or pluggable connector. The UPS itself is what's plugged into wall power (or hard-wired). As long as the UPS circuit is sized for the load, adding EBPs does not require electrical work.

Canadian warranty?
