Replacing the whole UPS? Refurbished UPS: load-tested, new batteries, 1-year warranty →

Replacement battery cartridges for APC Back-UPS RS Series UPS, the line-interactive UPS for home/SOHO desktops with extended runtime, USB monitoring, and AVR. Models supported include BR500, BR550, BR700, BR800, BR800I, BR900, BR1000, BR1000I, BR1100CI-RS, BR1200, BR1200G-RS, BR1300, BR1300LCD, BR1500, BR1500G, BR1500LCDI, BR24BP plus older RS-prefixed models (RS900, XS900, BX900-CN, BX1500-PCN, BX1500BP rack-rebrand).

RS-series UPS use cartridges such as the APC RBC32 (two 12V 7Ah batteries, 24V) and the RBC33 (two 12V 9Ah batteries, 24V); always confirm the cartridge code printed on your existing battery before ordering. The RS line was renamed Back-UPS Pro BR (no acronym) for newer revisions, see also our APC Back-UPS Pro BR collection.

Recommended swap interval: 3-5 years per IEEE 1188. Many RS units are 10+ years old now: if your unit is showing battery-replacement warnings every few months despite a new battery, the inverter electronics may be failing. Old battery? Recycle responsibly at any Call2Recycle Canada drop-off site. Calculate runtime before swap.

APC Back-UPS RS replacement batteries

The APC Back-UPS RS (and Back-UPS Pro RS) line (BR800, BR900, BR1000, BR1500 and related models) is a line-interactive UPS range for home offices and small setups. Its sealed lead-acid (VRLA) battery wears out after about 3 to 5 years; a new battery restores runtime. Use this page to find the right battery for your exact Back-UPS RS model.

For the wider range see APC Back-UPS batteries and APC replacement batteries.

Battery type

Back-UPS RS models use 12 V VRLA batteries: smaller models use a single 12 V battery, while higher-capacity models (such as the BR1500) use two 12 V batteries wired to 24 V. APC lists APCRBC124 for the BR1500G and APCRBC160 for the BR1000MS. Capacity and count depend on the exact model, so match by your model number rather than by VA alone.

How to identify the right battery

Find the model number on the rear or bottom label (e.g. BR1000, BR1500). Select the matching battery below, or send us your model number and we'll confirm the correct pack.

APC vs compatible aftermarket

APC OEM: cartridge supplied by APC, with the manufacturer's warranty. Compatible: matched on voltage, capacity, terminals and connectors, with a 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty.

How long does it last?

3 to 5 years at 20 to 25 °C. Heat shortens life: roughly halving it for every ~8 °C above 25 °C. See when to replace a UPS battery.

How to replace

APC's data sheets mark the battery as removable on models such as the BR1500G and BR1000MS, but not on others such as the BR1500MS, so check your model's manual first. In outline:

  1. Confirm the correct battery for your model.
  2. Power down the UPS if your model's manual requires it.
  3. Open the battery cover on the base or rear.
  4. Disconnect the old battery's tabs and remove it.
  5. Fit the new battery (or pair), reconnect observing polarity, and close the cover.
  6. Recharge and run a self-test.

FAQ

What battery does my Back-UPS RS use?

A single 12 V battery on smaller models, or two 12 V batteries (24 V) on models like the BR1500. Match by exact model number.

OEM or aftermarket?

For an in-warranty unit, check the APC warranty terms first. Out of warranty, a compatible 12 V battery matched on voltage, capacity, terminals and connectors is the usual choice, with a 1-year warranty.

How often should I replace it?

Every 3 to 5 years; sooner in warm spaces.
