About the Tripp Lite BC series

The Tripp Lite BC series is the brand's entry- to mid-tier battery backup line, built for desktops, point-of-sale terminals, networking gear, small servers and other single-device or small-cluster loads. Most BC models use a standby (offline) topology with a simulated/PWM sine-wave output, delivering surge protection and enough runtime to ride through brief outages or shut down equipment gracefully. How to choose a BC series UPS

Size by watts, not just VA. The VA rating is the apparent-power headline number, but your real constraint is the wattage (real power). Add up the watt draw of everything you plan to plug in and pick a model whose wattage rating comfortably exceeds it: aim to load the UPS to no more than about 70 to 80% so you keep runtime headroom. In the BC range, wattage runs from 210 W (BC350) to 1050 W (BC1500RT1ULNC).

Set runtime expectations. Standby UPS systems in this class are designed to bridge short outages and allow a clean shutdown, not to run equipment for long periods. The half-load runtimes here are in the 5 to 12 minute range; at full load they drop to a couple of minutes. If you need longer hold-up, size up in VA/W or step to a line-interactive or online family.

Standby vs line-interactive. Most BC models are standby: they pass utility power through and switch to battery when the supply fails. The BC600TU in this collection is line-interactive, which adds automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to correct brownouts and over-voltage without draining the battery: useful where mains power is unstable.

Rack vs tower. Choose a tower/desktop unit (several are wall-mountable) for under-desk, counter or shelf placement. Choose one of the 1U tower/rack-convertible models (BC500RT1ULNC, BC1000RT1ULNC, BC1500RT1ULNC) if the UPS lives in a server rack or network cabinet.
