The APC Smart-UPS 1000 VA family spans several generations, the legacy SU and SUA models, the SMC LCD models, and the extended-runtime SU-XL models. Which battery does my Smart-UPS 1000 take?

The pack voltage and capacity depend on the generation and chassis. For example, APC lists APCRBC124 (24 V, 2 × 12 V 9 Ah in our listing) for the SMC1000-2UC and APCRBC132 (24 V, 2 × 12 V 9 Ah) for the SMT1000RMI2U. Because of this spread, match by your exact model number (e.g. SMC1000-2UC, SU1000RM2U, SU1000XLNET): the VA rating alone is not enough.

How to replace

Smart-UPS batteries are hot-swappable on most current models (check the user manual): the UPS keeps protecting the load.

  1. Confirm the correct pack for your exact model.
  2. Open the battery compartment (front bezel on tower; tray latch on rack).
  3. Disconnect the battery connector.
  4. Slide the old pack out and the new one in.
  5. Reconnect until it clicks and run a self-test.
