The Tripp Lite (by Eaton) SmartOnline EZ series is a line of online double-conversion, pure sine wave UPS systems spanning 6 kVA / 5,400 W to 20 kVA / 18,000 W in tower/rack-convertible form factors. Genuine Tripp Lite, shipped from our Canadian warehouse.
The Tripp Lite (by Eaton) SmartOnline EZ series is a family of online double-conversion uninterruptible power supplies built for enterprise, data center, industrial and mission-critical loads. Every model in this series isolates connected equipment from the utility entirely, generating clean pure sine wave output continuously rather than switching to battery only when power fails. The series spans 6 kVA / 5,400 W up to 20 kVA / 18,000 W and ships in tower/rack-convertible chassis, so the same unit can stand on the floor or mount in a standard rack. Within the Tripp Lite lineup, SmartOnline sits above the line-interactive SmartPro range: it is the platform you choose when the load cannot tolerate any transfer time or input distortion. Every unit in this collection supports external extended-runtime battery packs for longer hold-up when your runtime target exceeds the internal battery.
The table below summarizes the representative capacity points in this series, built from each product's own specifications. The collection includes multiple variants at each kVA tier (hardwired, high-voltage, transformer and TAA configurations) — see the full range below for every model and its exact input/output configuration.
| Model | VA / W | Topology | Form factor | Runtime ½ / full | Output |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SU6000RT4UTF | 6,000 VA / 5,400 W | Online Double-Conversion | Rackmount (6U) | 8.5 min / 2 min | Pure sine wave, 120/208/240 V |
| SU6000RT4UHVHW | 6,000 VA / 5,400 W | Online Double-Conversion | Tower/Rack convertible | 8.5 min / 2 min | Pure sine wave, 240 V hardwired |
| SU12KRT4UHW | 12,000 VA / 10,800 W | Online Double-Conversion | Rackmount | 8.5 min / 2 min | Pure sine wave, 200–240 V hardwired |
| SU16KRT | 16,000 VA / 14,400 W | Online Double-Conversion | Tower/Rack convertible | 13.5 min / 5.5 min | Pure sine wave, 200–240 V |
| SU20KRT | 20,000 VA / 18,000 W | Online Double-Conversion | Tower/Rack convertible | 12.5 min / 4.3 min | Pure sine wave, 200–240 V |
Size by watts, not just VA. SmartOnline EZ units carry a unity-class power factor (for example, 6 kVA maps to 5,400 W and 20 kVA to 18,000 W), so confirm the real wattage of your connected load and leave headroom — loading a UPS to 100% leaves no margin for inrush or growth. As a rule, target roughly 70–80% of rated capacity.
Set a runtime expectation. Internal-battery runtime in this series runs from about 8.5 minutes at half load on the 6–12 kVA models up to 13.5 minutes on the 16 kVA units, and 2–5.5 minutes at full load depending on model. That is designed to cover ride-through and a clean, orderly shutdown — not extended operation. Because every model is extended-runtime capable, add external battery packs when you need to bridge longer outages or hold until a generator stabilizes.
Topology: why online double-conversion. Unlike line-interactive designs, an online double-conversion UPS continuously rebuilds the AC waveform, delivering zero transfer time and full isolation from sags, surges, frequency drift and noise. That is the right choice for servers, storage, network cores, medical and industrial control loads. If your equipment is less sensitive, a line-interactive UPS may suffice — but everything in this collection is the online class.
Rack vs. tower. Most SmartOnline EZ models are tower/rack convertible, so you can deploy on the floor or in a 19" rack with the included hardware; the 6 kVA transformer (SU6000RT4UTF) and 12 kVA models and several variants are rack-optimized. Match the form factor to your space and the output receptacles or hardwire option to your distribution.

Is the SmartOnline EZ series online double-conversion?
Yes. Every model in this collection is an online double-conversion UPS with pure sine wave output and zero transfer time.
What capacity range does the series cover?
From 6 kVA / 5,400 W up to 20 kVA / 18,000 W, with 12 kVA and 16 kVA tiers in between.
Can I get more runtime than the internal batteries provide?
Yes. All models are extended-runtime capable and accept external battery packs to lengthen hold-up time.
Can these be rack-mounted?
Most models are tower/rack convertible and include rack-mounting hardware; some variants are rack-optimized. Check the individual product page for the exact form factor and U-height.
