Every model in this series generates clean pure sine wave output continuously rather than switching to battery only when power fails. How to choose

Size by watts, not just VA. SmartOnline EZ units carry a 0.9 power factor (for example, 6 kVA maps to 5,400 W and 20 kVA to 18,000 W), so confirm the real wattage of your connected load and leave headroom: loading a UPS to 100% leaves no margin for inrush or growth. As a rule, target roughly 70 to 80% of rated capacity.

Set a runtime expectation. Internal-battery runtime in this series runs from about 8.5 minutes at half load on the 6 to 12 kVA models up to 13.5 minutes on the 16 kVA units, and 2 to 5.5 minutes at full load depending on model. That is designed to cover ride-through and a clean, orderly shutdown: not extended operation. Because every model is extended-runtime capable, add external battery packs when you need to bridge longer outages or hold until a generator stabilizes.

Topology: why online double-conversion. Unlike line-interactive designs, an online double-conversion UPS continuously rebuilds the AC waveform, delivering zero transfer time and regulated output through sags, surges, frequency drift and noise. That is the right choice for servers, storage, network cores, medical and industrial control loads. If your equipment is less sensitive, a line-interactive UPS may suffice: but everything in this collection is the online class.

Rack vs. tower. Most SmartOnline EZ models are tower/rack convertible, so you can deploy on the floor or in a 19" rack with the included hardware; the 6 kVA transformer (SU6000RT4UTF) and 12 kVA models and several variants are rack-optimized. Match the form factor to your space and the output receptacles or hardwire option to your distribution.
