Smart-UPS 1500 to APCRBC cross-reference

The cartridge is printed on the unit label and in the user manual; on any Smart-UPS 1500 with an LCD, the About → Battery menu also displays the APCRBC part number directly. How to identify the right cartridge

Method 1: front-panel LCD

On SMT, SMC and SMX 1500 models, navigate to About → Battery on the LCD. It displays the APCRBC part number directly.

Method 2: unit label

The side or rear of the chassis lists the model number and the compatible APCRBC.

Method 3: existing cartridge

Open the front bezel, the cartridge label lists cell count, voltage and Ah.

APC vs compatible aftermarket

Both power the UPS correctly. The differences.

APC OEM: cartridge supplied by APC, with the manufacturer's warranty. An in-warranty unit or a service contract may require it; check the terms.

How long does a Smart-UPS 1500 battery last?

APC gives 3 to 5 years (4 to 6 on some models) in a climate-controlled room. Three factors shorten that:

• Ambient temperature. Every ~8 °C above 25 °C roughly halves service life.
• Discharge cycles. Each full discharge consumes life: frequent outages age a pack faster.
• Float voltage. APC's temperature-compensated charging extends life on cartridges.

How to replace

Current Smart-UPS 1500 APCRBC cartridges are hot-swappable (check the user manual): the UPS keeps protecting the load during the swap.

1. Order the correct APCRBC (verify against the unit label or LCD About menu).
2. Slide the front bezel off the UPS.
3. Disconnect the polarised battery plug.
4. Slide the old cartridge out, the new one in.
5. Reconnect the polarised plug until it clicks.
6. Replace the front bezel.
7. Reset the install date via the LCD: About → Battery → Reset install date.

Which cartridge does my SMT1500RM2UC take?

APC's data sheet lists APCRBC159 (48 V, 9 Ah × 4 in our listing) for the SMT1500RM2UC. The SMT1500RMI2U label typically shows APCRBC133; the SMC1500-2UC takes APCRBC157 and the SMX1500RM2UC APCRBC115. Verify on the unit label or LCD About menu.

What about the tower SMT1500?

The tower SMT1500 and SMT1500I take APCRBC7 (24 V, 18 Ah × 2 in our listing).

Aftermarket vs OEM?

For an in-warranty unit, check the APC warranty terms first. For out-of-warranty units, a compatible cartridge matched on voltage, capacity and connectors is the usual choice. 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty.

Is it hot-swappable?

Yes on current Smart-UPS 1500 models (SMT, SMC, SMX): the cartridge is replaced with the UPS still protecting the load. Check the user manual.
