What is an APC Smart-UPS RT replacement battery?

Smart-UPS SRT (and the older Smart-UPS RT) use sealed lead-acid (SLA) cartridges in a defined APCRBC configuration. Smart-UPS Ultra (SRTL) uses lithium-ion batteries. Both are user-replaceable, and on most models the swap can be done while the UPS protects the load (check the user manual for your model). APC gives a battery life of 3 to 5 years for SRT lead-acid cartridges and 5 to 10 years for SRTL lithium-ion.

UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA stocks compatible SLA cartridges for the SRT range. We do not stock lithium batteries for the SRTL; they come from APC (APCRBC173-LI on the SRTL 2.2 and 3 kVA models, per APC's data sheets). How to identify the right cartridge

Method 1: front-panel LCD

About → Battery on the LCD displays the APCRBC or lithium-pack part number. Most reliable method on SRT and SRTL.

Method 2: unit label

Side or rear of the chassis lists the model number and compatible cartridge.

Method 3: existing cartridge

Open the front bezel, cartridge label lists cell count, voltage, and Ah. SLA cartridges only; lithium packs are sealed.

APC vs compatible aftermarket

SRT SLA cartridges: we stock compatible cartridges. SRTL lithium-ion: from APC only.

APC OEM: cartridge supplied by APC, with the manufacturer's warranty. An in-warranty unit or a service contract may require it; check the terms.

Compatible aftermarket SLA: Same form factor, connector and voltage as the original cartridge. 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty.

SRTL lithium pack (SRTL180RM2UBP): From APC only. We do not stock aftermarket lithium replacements for the SRTL.

How long do SRT and SRTL batteries last?

SLA on SRT: APC gives 3 to 5 years. Lithium-ion on SRTL: APC gives 5 to 10 years, and a 60-month warranty on the SRTL. Replace promptly when PowerChute or front-panel flags battery. When to replace UPS battery.

How to replace

SRT and SRTL batteries are user-replaceable, and on most models the swap can be done while the UPS protects the load; check the user manual for your model. Procedure:

  1. Order the correct APCRBC or SRTL pack (verify against the unit label or LCD About menu).
  2. Slide the front bezel off.
  3. Disconnect the polarised battery connector.
  4. Slide old cartridge / pack out, new one in.
  5. Reconnect the connector until it clicks.
  6. Replace the front bezel.
  7. Reset install date via LCD: About → Battery → Reset install date.

SRT 5 to 10 kVA cartridges are heavy; lift them with care. Read how to install UPS battery.

External battery packs (extended runtime)

SRT supports SRT48BP, SRT72BP, SRT96BP external battery packs depending on host chassis voltage. SRT5KRMXLT supports SRT192BP (192 V). APC's runtime charts give the minutes per pack. SRTL supports SRTL5KRMBP2U external lithium pack, factory APC only.

FAQ

SRT vs Smart-UPS Ultra battery?

SRT uses SLA APCRBC cartridges (APC: 3 to 5 years). SRTL uses lithium-ion batteries (APC: 5 to 10 years; from APC only). For long deployments or hot ambient, the SRTL means fewer battery replacements.

How do I know which APCRBC fits my SRT?

Check the front-panel LCD About menu, or the unit label. SRT1500 → APCRBC155, SRT2200 → APCRBC141, SRT3000 → APCRBC152, SRT5K/6K → APCRBC140, SRT8K/10K → APCRBC140 ×2.

Can I use aftermarket on SRTL?

No. We do not stock aftermarket lithium for the SRTL; use APC's own battery for your model (for example SRTL180RM2UBP, or APCRBC173-LI on the SRTL 2.2 and 3 kVA).

External battery packs?

Yes: SRT supports SRT48BP / SRT72BP / SRT96BP / SRT192BP depending on chassis voltage. APC's runtime charts give the minutes per pack.
