Both are valid options: a genuine OEM cartridge carries the manufacturer's branding, while a quality aftermarket pack delivers equivalent runtime and fit. Sealed lead-acid UPS batteries typically last 3 to 5 years. Heat is the single largest factor in how fast they age: as a rule of thumb, battery life is roughly halved for every 8°C of sustained operating temperature above 25°C. Keep the unit in a cool, ventilated spot and out of direct sun or enclosed cabinets to get the full service life.

How to replace the battery

The Back-UPS Pro BR is a desktop/tower unit, so the battery is not a live hot-swap part. Follow these steps:

1. Save your work and shut down any connected equipment.
2. Power off the UPS and unplug it from the wall outlet.
3. Open the battery compartment (usually a panel on the front or underside).
4. Disconnect the old cartridge, slide it out, and insert the new pack.
5. Reconnect the terminals, close the compartment, plug the UPS back in, and power it on.
6. Allow a full charge (typically several hours) before relying on backup runtime.

Hot-swapping — changing the battery while the unit stays online — is only supported on rack-mount, Smart-UPS and online/double-conversion models that are designed for it. It is not supported on desktop Back-UPS or Back-UPS Pro units.
