How to choose a Symmetra PX

Size by watts, not just VA. Your real constraint is the load's wattage (W / kW). Symmetra PX models are rated in both VA and W; on this series the headline kVA figure and the kW figure can differ (for example the SY30K40F is 40,000 VA but 30,000 W). Total the wattage of everything you intend to protect, add headroom for growth, and choose a model whose watt rating clears that total comfortably.

Set runtime expectations. The Symmetra PX is engineered for short, clean ride-through to cover utility sags and to bridge to a generator — not for hours of standalone runtime. The internal-battery figures on these systems run roughly 3.7–7 minutes at full load and 14–19 minutes at half load. Every system in this collection is extended-runtime capable, so you can add battery modules or cabinets where a longer hold-up time is required.

Topology. The entire Symmetra PX series is online double-conversion: the load is continuously fed from the inverter, fully isolated from raw utility power, with a pure sine wave output. This is the highest level of protection and the standard expectation for data-center and mission-critical loads — a step beyond the line-interactive topology used in smaller desktop and network UPS classes.

Tower vs. rack. Most Symmetra PX systems in this collection are floor-standing tower / frame units suited to a data-center row; a few (such as the SY30K40F rackmount and the SY32K96H tower/rack-convertible) fit rack or convertible deployments. Confirm the form factor and output voltage (120V / 208V / 230V / 400V / 480V across this range) match your facility's electrical and physical layout before ordering.
