The Tripp Lite SMX line, also branded SmartPro X, is a family of line-interactive UPS systems ranging from compact 1U rack units to larger tower and rack/tower convertible models. Every model in this series relies on a string of internal valve-regulated sealed lead-acid (VRLA / SLA) batteries to carry your equipment through a power outage. Over time those cells lose capacity, and a fresh battery is the single most effective way to restore full runtime to a working UPS.

How the battery scales with the UPS

SMX batteries are built from individual 12-volt sealed lead-acid blocks. Smaller units use a single 12V battery, while larger units wire several blocks in series and/or parallel to reach a higher system voltage and greater capacity. That is why the correct voltage and amp-hour rating differs from one SMX model to the next. Because the configuration changes across the series, we do not quote one universal spec for the whole line. Instead, each product in this collection lists the exact voltage and amp-hour rating for that specific model in the product grid above.

Identify your battery by exact model number

The safest way to order is to match by the exact UPS model number. Find the model label on the rear or underside of your unit (for example SMX1000RT2U, SMX1500LCD, SMX3000XLRT2U or SMX5000XLRT3U) and select the product that names that model. Do not order by capacity alone or by physical size guesses. Confirming the model first prevents mismatched voltage, wrong terminal type, or a battery that does not fit the tray. Genuine OEM vs aftermarket batteries

You have two paths when a UPS battery reaches end of life. A genuine OEM cartridge is supplied by the manufacturer and carries the original brand. An aftermarket battery is a compatible replacement built to meet or exceed the same physical and electrical specifications, usually at a lower cost. Both use the same proven sealed lead-acid chemistry. The batteries in this collection are aftermarket compatible replacements engineered to fit and perform in the listed SMX models.

Expected lifespan

A UPS battery typically lasts 3 to 5 years under normal conditions. Heat is the biggest factor in how fast a battery ages: as a rule of thumb, battery life is roughly halved for every 8°C of sustained operating temperature above 25°C. Keeping the UPS in a cool, ventilated location and replacing the battery on schedule keeps your protection reliable.

How to replace the battery

1. Confirm your exact UPS model number and order the matching battery from the grid above.
2. Read your UPS owner manual for the model-specific battery access procedure.
3. Note the orientation and wiring of the existing battery before disconnecting anything.
4. Remove the old battery, install the new one in the same orientation, and reconnect the leads securely.
5. Run a self-test and recharge the UPS fully before relying on it during an outage.
6. Recycle the old sealed lead-acid battery at an approved recycling point.

Hot-swap note: Hot-swapping (replacing the battery while the UPS keeps running) is only appropriate for rack-mount, Smart-UPS style and online/double-conversion units that are designed with user-serviceable, hot-swappable battery modules. It is not appropriate for desktop or Back-UPS style units; those should be powered down and disconnected before changing the battery. When in doubt, power the unit down and follow the manual.
