Replacement batteries for the APC Smart-UPS 3000VA family, the workhorse of small-server-room and network-closet deployments. The SMT3000 and SMT3000C towers use the APC RBC55 cartridge; the 2U rack SMT3000RM2U, SMT3000RMT2U and SMT3000RMUS use the RBC43.

What Battery Does My APC Smart-UPS 3000 Take?

The SMT3000 towers use the RBC55 cartridge, a 48V pack of 12V 17Ah blocks, sealed lead-acid (SLA / VRLA), hot-swappable. Other 3000VA lines use different cartridges: APCRBC143 (Smart-UPS X SMX3000LVNC), APCRBC117 (SMX3000RMLV2U), APCRBC105 (Smart-UPS XL SUA3000RMXL3U), APCRBC140 (Smart-UPS RT SURT3000RMXLT, SURTA3000XL), APCRBC152 (Smart-UPS On-Line SRT3000XLA) and SYBT2-PLP (Symmetra LX 3000); always confirm the cartridge code on your existing battery label before ordering.

How to identify the right battery

Read the model number on the unit's rear or side label (for example SMT3000RMI2U or SU3000RM3U). Newer SMT tower models take the APCRBC55 cartridge and the rack SMT3000RMI2U / SMT3000RM2U take RBC43; the legacy SU / SUA-series take a 48 V battery set. APC reuses designs across many SKUs, so your exact model number is the reliable key.

APC vs compatible aftermarket

Both restore full runtime. APC OEM: cartridge supplied by APC, with the manufacturer's warranty. Compatible aftermarket: the same 48 V form factor and connector, with a 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty.

How long does it last?

How to replace

Smart-UPS 3000 batteries are user-replaceable and hot-swappable on current models (check the user manual): the UPS keeps protecting the load during the swap.

  1. Confirm the correct cartridge or set for your exact model.
  2. Open the battery compartment (front bezel on tower models; tray latch on rack models).
  3. Disconnect the battery connector.
  4. Slide the old pack out and the new one in.
  5. Reconnect until it clicks.
  6. Close up, run a self-test, and allow 8 to 24 hours for a full charge before relying on full runtime.

What about an older SU3000?
