What is a 3–10 kVA UPS?

3–10 kVA is the dense-rack and branch-data-centre tier — full racks of servers, blade chassis, GPU compute, edge data-centre cabinets, mid-size lab and industrial loads. At this level, 120 V becomes inefficient and the standard voltage is 208/230 V single-phase on NEMA L6-30P, or 208 V three-phase hard-wired. Battery strings are larger; runtime extension via external battery packs becomes routine; SNMP and remote management become mandatory.

XPC 3–10 kVA models

P91 5–10 kVA Unity PF — 5 kVA = 5 kW, 6 kVA = 6 kW, 10 kVA = 10 kW. TX91 also Unity PF with internal galvanic isolation. P80g 0.9 PF — P80g-5000 = 4500 W. M90C three-phase, 120/208 V in/out.

How to choose

Single-phase vs three-phase

Up to 10 kVA single-phase 208/230 V is the rack-deployment default — feeds a metered/switched L6-30 rack PDU. Three-phase M90C is required when upstream service is three-phase and you want to balance load across phases. Below 10 kVA, single-phase P91 is usually simpler and cheaper.

P91 vs TX91

Both online double-conversion at this kVA range. P91 is standard online — IT rack and edge compute. TX91 adds internal galvanic isolation transformer — for medical, lab, or any site requiring isolated power. TX91 also supports up to 8-hour battery runtime via external packs. XPC isolated UPS.

Bundled solutions

P91 5 / 6 / 10 kVA ship in P91-5KB, P91-6KB, P91-10KB rack/tower bundles (4U / 5U). P91-5KTB / 6KTB / 10KTB transformer-bundle versions add 208/120 V step-down for sites that need 120 V output from 208 V upstream. TX91 bundles (TX91-3.8KB1, TX91-5KB1, etc.) include L6-30P 6-foot input cord and pre-configured output panels.

Sizing

Add nameplate watts of all loads, multiply by 1.25 buffer. P91-6K (6 kW) covers a typical 30-server 1U rack drawing ~150 W per server (4500 W) with headroom. Don't oversize: data-centre UPS efficiency drops below 30 % load. Sizing guide.

P91 5 / 6 / 10 kVA: BPXR2U240A (2U) or BPXR3U240A (3U) extended battery packs — 20× 12 V batteries, hot-swappable. TX91: TX91-BP960-1 / 2 / 3 packs — up to 3 packs per UPS, up to 8-hour runtime. P91-6K vs P91-10K?

6K (6 kW) covers a typical mid-density 1U rack of 25–30 servers. 10K (10 kW) covers a denser rack with blades, GPU, or storage arrays. 6K plug-in via L6-30P; 10K hard-wired only. Spec on actual measured rack draw, not nameplate-future-load.

P91 vs TX91 at 6 kVA?

When does M90C three-phase make sense?

When upstream distribution is three-phase 208 V (typical at 8 kVA+ in branch data centres). M90C is modular — 2-slot or 6-slot enclosure, 5 / 8 kW power modules. Hot-swappable for live capacity expansion or N+1 redundancy.

Plug or hard-wire?

P91-5K and 6K ship with NEMA L6-30P plug — dedicated 30 A 208/230 V circuit. P91-10K, M90C, P80g-5000 hardwired versions hard-wired only. TX91 ships in both bundle types.

Runtime — how much do I need?

For sites with generator: 5–10 minutes to genset stabilization. For sites without: 15–30 minutes for graceful shutdown and replication failover. TX91 supports up to 8-hour ride-through via TX91-BP960 packs for sites without generator. XPC battery packs.

Network management?

SNMP-2PV3 internal card on P91, TX91, M90C. SNMP v1/v2c/v3, web management, integration with VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Windows, Linux shutdown agents. MODBUS-IN card optional for industrial / BMS. SNMP-EMPV2 environmental sensor.
