What is an industrial UPS?

Industrial UPS protects loads in environments where power events translate to lost production, SCADA control rooms, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), CNC and motion-control systems, process-industry sensors and actuators, water and wastewater plants, transportation control. Industrial UPS prioritises galvanic isolation, wide input voltage tolerance, hard-wired terminal connections, three-phase support, and chassis hardened for harsher ambient conditions.

How to choose

Online double-conversion is mandatory

Industrial PLCs, motion drives, and instrumentation generally cannot tolerate the 2–4 ms transfer of line-interactive, even brief gaps cause control-loop interruptions. SmartOnline is double-conversion online: zero transfer time, fully regenerated sine wave at all times.

Single-phase vs three-phase

Most control-room equipment runs single-phase 208/230 V, SmartOnline SU 5–20 kVA covers this tier. Three-phase S3M 10–80 kVA when upstream is three-phase or load exceeds ~20 kVA single-phase.

Sizing for industrial inrush

Battery runtime

Most industrial deployments size battery runtime for graceful shutdown, typically 15–30 minutes. SmartOnline supports BP-series external battery packs for runtime extension; S3M uses external battery cabinets configured at install.

Each SmartOnline model lists its battery part numbers in the user manual; send us the model number and we confirm the match. S3M three-phase uses dedicated battery cabinets with hot-swap modules. Installation and warranty

SU 5–6 kVA on L6-30P plug, dedicated 30 A 208/230 V circuit by licensed electrician per CSA. SU 10 kVA+ hard-wired only. FAQ

SU 6K vs SU 10K?

SU 6K (4200 W) covers a typical control-panel + skid load. SU 10K (9 kW) covers larger industrial cabinets or denser PLC racks. 6K plug-in via L6-30P; 10K hard-wired only.

S3M three-phase: when?

When upstream is three-phase 208 V, when load exceeds ~20 kVA single-phase, or when modular hot-swap power and battery is required. Always commissioned by qualified technician.

Inrush handling?

SmartOnline specifies peak overload current and duration. Size against worst-case transient.

Network management?

SNMP card slot on SU-series accepts WEBCARDLX. SNMP, web, Modbus, integration with VMware, Hyper-V, Linux via PowerAlert.

Battery runtime extension?

BP-series external battery packs on SU 5–10 kVA. External battery cabinets on SU 20K and S3M. Sized to ride-through requirement at install.
