About Xtreme Power 120V UPS Systems

What is a 120 V UPS?

120 V single-phase is the default commercial and residential receptacle voltage across Canada. Almost all small-to-mid commercial UPS deployments — workstation, point-of-sale, server room, branch IT, network closet, edge compute — run 120 V on NEMA 5-15P (15 A), NEMA 5-20P (20 A), or NEMA L5-30P (locking 30 A) plugs. Step up to 208/230 V only when load exceeds the practical 120 V range or when the site already runs 208 V three-phase distribution.

UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA stocks the full XPC 120 V range across all topologies. For 208/230 V higher-power deployments see XPC 208/230 V UPS. For full XPC catalog see Xtreme Power Conversion.

How to choose

Plug type matters

NEMA 5-15P (the standard 15 A wall outlet) tops out around 1500 VA continuous on a UPS — the breaker is the limiter. NEMA 5-20P (20 A, T-slot neutral) supports up to ~2200 VA. NEMA L5-30P (locking 30 A) needed for 3000 VA at 120 V. If site only has 5-15 receptacles, biggest practical UPS is ~1500 VA — for 3 kVA at 120 V either install a dedicated 30 A 120 V circuit OR step up to 208 V.

When to leave 120 V

Continuous load above ~2400 W. Higher-density rack with multiple servers in one cabinet. Three-phase distribution already present. Above 3 kVA, 208/230 V is more efficient (lower line current, lower I²R loss) and the standard receptacle is L6-30 — see XPC 208/230 V UPS.

Sizing

Add nameplate watts of all loads, multiply by 1.25 buffer, pick UPS whose watt rating exceeds. P91-1500 SLA delivers 1450 W; P91-1500 Li delivers 1350 W; J90-1.5KLi delivers 1350 W; T91-1500 delivers 1450 W. P80 0.9 PF — P80-3000 = 2700 W. S71 0.6 PF — S71-1500 = 900 W. Read UPS sizing guide.

Replacement batteries

SLA cartridges across A60, S71, P80, T91, P91 stocked as compatible aftermarket — same V, Ah, terminal, and connector spec as factory. 1-year UPSPLUSBATTERY warranty. Lithium packs (J60, J60C, J90, P91 Li) are factory XPC only. Browse XPC UPS replacement batteries.

Installation and warranty

5-15P / 5-20P plug-and-play. L5-30P needs dedicated 30 A 120 V circuit installed by licensed electrician per CSA. Warranty (USA and Canada) varies by series: A60 / S71 / P80 / T91 / P91 standard 3-year; J60 / J60C 5-year; J90 / J90i / P91 Li / P91g Li 6-year. Coordinated through our Canadian team. Shipped from our Canadian warehouse — see shipping policy for rates and timing. Replies within 1 business day.

FAQ

What's the biggest XPC UPS that runs on a normal wall outlet?

NEMA 5-15P maxes out around 1500 VA continuous. Above that you either need a 5-20P (20 A) or L5-30P (30 A) circuit installed.

120 V vs 208 V — which is better?

120 V is fine and cheap up to ~2.4 kW continuous. Above that, 208 V is more efficient (half the line current, quarter the I²R loss in the cord) and locking L6-30 receptacles are standard in rack PDUs. For a single 1U/2U server, 120 V wins on simplicity. For a full rack, 208 V wins on efficiency. XPC 208/230 V UPS.

Does 120 V XPC support PDU output?

Yes. P91 / J90 above 2200 VA include locking 5-20R or L5-30R outputs. XPDU rack PDU options pair with most XPC 120 V UPS for distribution to multiple devices.

Can I plug a 5-15P UPS into a 5-20R outlet?

Yes — 5-20R is mechanically compatible with both 5-15P and 5-20P. The 20 A rating just means more current available; it does not require a 5-20P UPS plug.

Lithium 120 V — which series?

J60 / J60C standby (350 / 600 VA), J90 1U online (1–3 kVA), P91 Li 2U online (1.5–3 kVA). LiFePO₄ chemistry on all. XPC lithium UPS.

Battery life?

SLA: 4–5 years climate-controlled. Lithium: up to 15 years rated by XPC. When to replace UPS battery.

Canadian warranty?

Yes — every XPC 120 V series carries factory warranty terms that explicitly cover USA and Canada. RMA does not require cross-border shipping. Shipped from our Canadian warehouse.

120V UPS systems for North American standard outlets — 5-15P, 5-20P, and L5-30P input.

Standard 120V UPS systems are the right choice when your loads run on regular wall outlets and your facility provides standard 120V/15A or 120V/20A circuits. Output receptacles match the input voltage — 5-15R for general loads or 5-20R for higher-current rack equipment.
