The APC Smart-UPS RT series is a line of online double-conversion (pure sine wave) UPS systems spanning roughly 1000VA/700W to 20000VA/16000W, available in tower, rackmount (2U/3U/5U+) and convertible tower-rack form factors. Genuine APC by Schneider Electric hardware, shipped from our Canadian warehouse.
The APC Smart-UPS RT ("RT" for rack/tower) is APC by Schneider Electric's online double-conversion platform for servers, storage, network closets and other always-on loads that can't tolerate a transfer gap. Every unit in this series runs true online double-conversion topology with a pure sine wave output, so the connected load is continuously fed from the inverter and isolated from input voltage and frequency disturbances. It sits above APC's line-interactive Smart-UPS family in the lineup: where line-interactive UPS systems switch to battery on an event, the RT series conditions power continuously with zero transfer time. This collection runs from compact 1000VA tower units up to 20000VA rack/tower systems, so it covers everything from a single rack of equipment to a full IT room.
Buyers typically land here when they need clean, protected power for a server rack, a small data closet, medical or lab equipment, or industrial control gear, and when a basic standby UPS isn't enough. Use the table below to narrow by capacity and form factor, then open the matching product page for the full spec sheet and current Canadian pricing.
The Smart-UPS RT family is broad; the models below are representative across the capacity and form-factor range. See the full range below for every available model and configuration.

All capacities are pure sine wave and every model in this series is extended-runtime capable, so runtime can be increased with additional battery packs. The full range below includes additional VA ratings, output voltages (120V / 208V / 220V / 230V / 200V) and form factors not shown above.
Size by watts, not just VA. Each RT model carries two numbers, for example 5000VA / 3500W. Your equipment's real power draw (watts) must stay under the watt rating, and the VA rating must clear the apparent power. Add up the nameplate load of everything you intend to protect, target around 70–80% of the watt rating to leave headroom, and pick the model that clears both numbers.
Set your runtime expectation. The runtime figures in the table are at half and full load on internal batteries; lighter loads run longer. If you need more than a few minutes — for graceful shutdown of large systems, or to ride through longer outages — every model in this series is extended-runtime capable and accepts external battery packs to stretch backup time.
Online vs line-interactive. The entire RT series is online double-conversion: the load is always powered from the inverter, with continuous voltage and frequency regulation and zero transfer time. That's a step up from line-interactive Smart-UPS units and is the right choice for sensitive servers, storage, medical and industrial loads. If your load is a basic office PC or a small workgroup, a line-interactive unit may be sufficient and lower cost.
Rack vs tower. Choose tower for floor-standing closets and offices, rackmount (2U / 3U / 5U+) to fit a standard equipment rack, or a convertible tower/rack model if you want flexibility. Confirm rack depth and rail requirements on the product page before ordering.
New Smart-UPS RT units carry the standard APC manufacturer warranty (commonly three years on the listed new models; refurbished units carry our own warranty as stated on the product page). Orders ship from our Canadian warehouse, so you avoid cross-border duties and long lead times. If you're not sure which model fits your load, contact us before you order and we'll help you size it.

Every model in this series is online double-conversion with a pure sine wave output. The load is continuously powered from the inverter with zero transfer time, which is why the RT line is recommended for servers, storage and other sensitive equipment.
Add up the wattage of the equipment you want to protect and choose a model whose watt rating clears your total with about 20–30% headroom. The VA rating must also clear your apparent power. This collection ranges from 1000VA / 700W to 20000VA / 16000W.
