About Alpha Technologies Pinnacle Replacement Batteries

Replacement batteries for Alpha Technologies Pinnacle & Pinnacle Plus UPS systems

This hub covers replacement battery kits for the Alpha Technologies Pinnacle and Pinnacle Plus line of uninterruptible power supplies, in both rackmount (RM) and tower (T) form factors. Each kit is assembled from sealed lead-acid (SLA / AGM) cells and is designed to drop into your existing unit without modification. Kits ship from our Canadian warehouse, so there is no cross-border duty or extended customs delay.

Battery type and how the kit scales with your model

These units are built around the standard 12V 7.2Ah sealed lead-acid (AGM) cell - a maintenance-free, valve-regulated, non-spillable format. A UPS does not use a single battery; it wires multiple 12V cells in series (and sometimes in parallel) to reach the DC bus voltage and runtime its electronics require. As the model rating climbs from 700VA up through 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 classes, the number of cells in the kit increases accordingly. That is why two units that both use a "12V 7.2Ah" cell can still need a different kit: the quantity and the internal wiring differ. Always order the kit built for your specific model rather than matching on cell spec alone.

Identify your unit by exact model and part number

Alpha Technologies labels each Pinnacle and Pinnacle Plus unit with a model name and a part number in the 017-739-xx or 017-751-xx series (for example, Pinnacle Plus 700T is 017-751-05). Find this label on the rear or underside of the chassis and confirm it against the product you are buying. The product grid on this page shows the voltage and amp-hour rating for each kit, and every listing names the exact model and part number it fits. When the model and part number match, the kit fits.

Genuine OEM vs aftermarket batteries

You have two options when a UPS battery wears out: a genuine OEM cartridge sold under the Alpha Technologies brand, or an aftermarket replacement built to the same form factor, voltage and capacity. Aftermarket kits use the same industry-standard SLA/AGM cells and are sized to meet or exceed the original specification, typically at a lower cost. They are compatible replacements - they are not manufactured or branded by Alpha Technologies.

Battery lifespan and the heat factor

Sealed lead-acid UPS batteries generally last 3 to 5 years under normal indoor conditions. Heat is the single biggest factor in how long they actually last: as a rule of thumb, every 8°C of sustained temperature above the rated 25°C roughly halves the battery's service life. Keep the UPS in a cool, ventilated spot, away from heat sources and direct sun, and test or replace on a schedule rather than waiting for a failure during an outage.

How to replace the battery

  1. Confirm the exact model and part number on your unit and order the matching kit.
  2. Note the wiring and orientation of the existing batteries before you disconnect anything (a photo helps).
  3. Disconnect the battery leads, remove the old cells, and insert the new kit in the same orientation.
  4. Reconnect the leads, ensuring polarity and terminal type match, and secure the battery compartment.
  5. Allow the UPS to recharge fully, then run a self-test to confirm runtime.

A note on hot-swapping: hot-swappable battery replacement - changing the battery while the unit stays powered and protecting the load - is only appropriate for rackmount, Smart-UPS-style, and online (double-conversion) units that are explicitly designed with a hot-swap battery tray. Do not attempt a hot-swap on desktop or Back-UPS-style consumer units; power those down and disconnect them from the wall before opening the battery compartment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which kit fits my UPS?
Match the exact model name and the 017-739-xx / 017-751-xx part number printed on your unit to the product listing. The product grid shows each kit's voltage and amp-hour rating.

How long will a new battery last?
Typically 3 to 5 years, shorter in warm environments. Sustained heat roughly 8°C above 25°C can cut expected life in half.

Are these genuine Alpha Technologies batteries?
These are aftermarket compatible replacement kits built to the same form factor, voltage and capacity. They are not OEM-branded.

Can I replace the battery without shutting the UPS down?
Only on rackmount, Smart-UPS-style or online units designed for hot-swap. Desktop and Back-UPS-style units must be powered off first.

Where does my order ship from?
All kits ship from our Canadian warehouse.
