About CyberPower Smart App Sinewave UPS Systems

About the CyberPower Smart App Sinewave (PR) Series

The CyberPower Smart App Sinewave series — the PR family — is CyberPower's professional line of line-interactive UPS systems built for servers, network closets, point-of-sale, NAS, medical and other equipment that demands clean, regulated power. Every unit in the series delivers pure sine wave output on battery, making it safe for active PFC power supplies found in modern servers and workstations. The series sits above CyberPower's consumer (simulated sine wave) lines and below its true double-conversion online (OL/OLS) systems, giving you protected, regulated power without the cost of a full online UPS.

This collection spans a wide capacity range — roughly 500VA / 400W up to 5000VA / 5000W — in mini-tower, 1U and 2U rackmount, and rack/tower-convertible form factors, so you can match the unit to where it will live and what it has to protect.

How to Choose

Size by watts, not just VA. Add up the wattage of everything you intend to protect and pick a model whose watt rating comfortably exceeds that load (aim to load to about 60-80% so you keep runtime headroom). VA is the apparent-power figure; watts is the real-power limit your equipment actually draws, and on most PR-series units the VA and W ratings are equal or close, so watts is the figure to size against.

Set a runtime expectation. The runtime columns above show approximate minutes at half load and full load. If you need more, look for models flagged as extended-runtime capable — most of the rack/tower units in this series accept external battery packs (EBM) to extend backup time well beyond the internal battery.

Topology. Every model here is line-interactive with automatic voltage regulation (AVR), which corrects brownouts and surges without switching to battery, and produces a true sine wave when it does transfer. This is the right tier for servers and PFC power supplies. If your application requires zero-transfer, fully isolated power (large data centre or sensitive lab loads), consider a true online/double-conversion UPS instead.

Rack vs tower. Choose a mini-tower for a desk or floor-standing install, a 1U/2U rackmount for a server rack, or a Tower/Rack convertible model if you want the flexibility to mount it either way. Check the outlet types in the table against the plugs on your equipment (NEMA 5-15R/5-20R for standard gear, L5-30R/L6-xxR locking outlets on higher-capacity units).

Key Features of the PR Series

  • Pure sine wave output on battery — safe for active-PFC servers and workstations.
  • Line-interactive with AVR to ride through brownouts and overvoltage without draining the battery.
  • Multi-function LCD showing load, runtime, battery status and event data.
  • Network management ready (SNMP/serial/USB) with PowerPanel software for safe shutdown and monitoring.
  • Extended-runtime capable on most rack/tower models via external battery packs.
  • Tower, 1U/2U rack and convertible form factors across the range.

Warranty, Canadian Shipping & Support

PR-series units carry a manufacturer warranty (commonly 3 years, with selected PRL models at 5 years — see the individual product page for the exact term). All orders ship from our Canadian warehouse, so you avoid cross-border duties, brokerage and long international lead times, and you get local support on sizing, configuration and replacement parts.

When the internal batteries eventually reach end of life, you do not need to replace the whole unit — see our CyberPower replacement battery collection for the matching RB-series cartridges, and browse the full CyberPower range for other UPS families and accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PR series line-interactive or online? Every model in this collection is line-interactive with automatic voltage regulation and pure sine wave output. For zero-transfer double-conversion power, look at CyberPower's online (OL) series instead.

What size UPS do I need? Total the wattage of your connected equipment and choose a model whose watt rating exceeds it with headroom (around 60-80% loading). The runtime figures in the table are approximate at half and full load.

Can I extend the runtime? Yes — most rack/tower models in this series are extended-runtime capable and accept external battery packs to lengthen backup time.

Will it work with my server's power supply? Yes. The pure sine wave output is specifically suited to active-PFC power supplies used in modern servers and high-end workstations.

Can I rack-mount these? Many models are 1U or 2U rackmount, and several are Tower/Rack convertible so you can mount them horizontally in a rack or stand them vertically as a tower. Check the form factor column for each model.
