Eaton 5PX replacement batteries

The Eaton 5PX (and the newer 5PX G2) is a line-interactive network/server UPS in rack and tower form, from 1000 VA to 3000 VA (eaton.com). Its sealed lead-acid (VRLA) battery modules wear out after about 3 to 5 years; new batteries restore runtime. Use this page to find the right battery for your exact 5PX model.

Battery type and how it scales

The 5PX line uses 12 V sealed lead-acid batteries: eaton.com lists 12V/7.2 Ah for the 5PX1500RT and 12V/9 Ah for the 5PX2200RT and 5PX3000RTN, and the G2 models take Eaton's EBP-1612 (5PX1000RTG2) and EBP-1613 (5PX1500RTG2) packs. Up to 4 EBMs extend runtime (5PXEBM48RT, 5PXEBM72RT2U, 5PXEBM48RTG2). Capacity differs between generations, so match the battery to your exact model number (e.g. 5PX1500RT2U, 5PX1000RTG2, 5PX2200RTN, 5PX3000RTN) rather than by VA alone.

How to replace

eaton.com lists the 5PX battery as user replaceable. Follow your unit's manual; in outline:

  1. Confirm the correct battery for your model.
  2. Open the front bezel and release the battery tray.
  3. Disconnect the battery connector.
  4. Slide the old module out and the new one in.
  5. Reconnect until secure and run a self-test.

Are 5PX and 5PX G2 batteries the same?
