What a UPS network management card does
A network management card turns a standalone UPS into a monitored, network-connected device. It adds an Ethernet port with SNMP and a secure web interface so you can see status, get email/alerts on power events, log data, integrate with DCIM, and trigger graceful, automatic shutdown of servers before the battery runs out.
Cards are slot-specific — each manufacturer uses its own accessory slot. Confirm your UPS has a free slot of the right type before ordering.

How to choose
1. Match the slot
A card only fits its own manufacturer's slot — an APC NMC won't fit an Eaton UPS, and so on. Check your UPS model's accessory slot first.
2. Features
Look for SNMPv3 and secure web (HTTPS), plus support for environmental sensors (temperature/humidity) and your shutdown software or virtualization platform.
3. Sensors
Many cards accept a plug-in temperature/humidity probe — useful for closets and small server rooms where heat drives battery wear.
Installation & specs

No. Cards are slot- and brand-specific. Match the card family to your UPS manufacturer and confirm a free slot.
What is APC SmartSlot?
SmartSlot is APC's accessory bay on Smart-UPS and larger units that accepts the Network Management Card and other add-ons. Eaton, Vertiv and CyberPower have their own equivalents.
Do I need a management card?
If you need remote monitoring, network alerts on outages, or automatic server shutdown when the battery is low, yes. For an unattended UPS it's one of the highest-value accessories.
Can it monitor temperature?
Many cards support an optional environmental sensor for temperature and humidity — helpful because heat is the main driver of UPS battery aging.
