Battery replacement

The right cells, identified and fitted.

We identify the cartridge, supply high-rate flame-retardant cells, and hot-swap without dropping the load where the UPS permits. Old cells are disposed of to provincial rules.

How it works

Three steps. No surprises.

01

Tell us the model

The UPS model is enough. We identify the cartridge and how many cells it takes.

02

We supply the cells

High-rate, flame-retardant cells, from Canadian stock.

03

Fitted or shipped

Hot-swapped on site where the UPS permits, or we ship you the kit.

The UPS Battery: The Critical Component for Uninterrupted Power

The UPS battery is the most crucial element in any UPS system. Whether your system is small or large, high-end or budget-friendly, the UPS battery is the heart of its reliability and performance. A well-maintained battery ensures your system stays functional during power outages, protecting your critical systems from downtime. However, the UPS battery is also the most vulnerable part of the system, and understanding the causes of battery degradation is key to preventing failures and maximizing uptime.

At UPSPLUSBATTERY, we offer expert support services for UPS batteries across all major manufacturers and systems. Our services include thorough testing for charge and discharge performance, ensuring your UPS battery operates at optimal levels. Need to identify the right replacement? Browse our replacement battery hub or check the UPS Battery FAQ for sizing help.

Preventive Maintenance for UPS Batteries

Our approach to UPS battery maintenance is proactive, designed to catch potential issues before they lead to system failure. Over 90% of UPS-related failures stem from battery problems, so we focus on thoroughly inspecting UPS batteries for signs of wear, such as leaks, cracks, and sulfation. By carefully measuring and monitoring the temperature, voltage, impedance, and capacity of your UPS batteries, we help prevent unexpected failures that could compromise the integrity of your power system.

Environmental conditions matter as much as scheduled testing. Every 8°C above 25°C halves SLA / VRLA battery life (Arrhenius rule of thumb), which is why our Nunavut mining case study placed batteries in a separate temperature-controlled enclosure even though the UPS itself was in a less-controlled space.

When to Replace UPS Batteries

VRLA / SLA batteries typically last 3–5 years; lithium-ion variants last 8–10 years. Plan replacement at year 3.5–4 for VRLA in 24/7 deployments — don't wait for failure. Common signs that replacement is overdue:

  • UPS reports a battery failure warning or self-test fail
  • Reduced backup runtime during real outages or simulated tests
  • Frequent beeping or warning lights on the UPS panel
  • The UPS shuts down unexpectedly when grid drops
  • Physical signs of battery damage — swelling, leaking, or corrosion

Don't put swollen or damaged batteries in regular trash — lead-acid is regulated under provincial Hazardous Waste rules. We handle disposal as part of our replacement service.

Maximize UPS Battery Life with Regular Maintenance
