What is an industrial UPS?
Industrial UPS protects loads in environments where power events translate to lost production — SCADA control rooms, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), CNC and motion-control systems, process-industry sensors and actuators, water and wastewater plants, transportation control, and oil-and-gas field equipment. Compared to IT-rack UPS, industrial UPS prioritises galvanic isolation, wide input voltage tolerance, hard-wired terminal connections, three-phase support, and chassis hardened for harsher ambient conditions.
APC's industrial-grade catalog has three tiers: single-phase Smart-UPS SRT 5–10 kVA and Easy UPS On-Line SRV 6–20 kVA for control-room and skid-mounted equipment; modular Symmetra LX for scalable rack-deployable redundancy; and three-phase Galaxy V series 10 kVA to 1.5 MW for facility-scale and process plants. UPSPLUSBATTERY.CA stocks the single-phase range and quotes the three-phase Galaxy line on request. For commercial server-room equivalents see APC double-conversion online UPS. APC industrial families
For most control-room and skid deployments under 10 kVA the answer is SRT or Easy UPS On-Line. Above 20 kVA single-phase or where three-phase is the upstream service, Symmetra and Galaxy are the right tier.
How to choose
Online double-conversion is mandatory
Industrial PLCs, motion drives, and instrumentation generally cannot tolerate the 2–4 ms transfer of line-interactive — even brief gaps cause control-loop interruptions. All four families above are double-conversion online: zero transfer time, full input isolation, fully regenerated sine wave at all times. Topology comparison.
Single-phase vs three-phase
Most control-room and skid equipment runs single-phase 208/230 V. Three-phase is required when upstream service is three-phase or when load exceeds ~20 kVA. Galaxy V series covers the three-phase tier from 10 kVA up to 1.5 MW with integrated transformer options for industrial step-down or step-up.
Sizing for industrial inrush
Industrial loads (motor drives, contactors, solenoids) often have inrush currents 6–10× nominal. Add nameplate watts × 1.25 buffer for steady-state, then verify the UPS's overload tolerance against expected inrush. SRT and Galaxy tolerate higher transient overload than IT-class UPS. Read UPS sizing guide and confirm specific inrush handling with our team.
Battery runtime
Most industrial deployments size battery runtime for graceful shutdown of the controlled process — typically 15–30 minutes. SRT and Galaxy support external battery cabinets to extend ride-through significantly. Easy UPS On-Line SRV ships with extended-runtime battery options at order.

Installation and warranty
SRT 5 kVA on L6-30P; 6 / 8 / 10 kVA hard-wired by licensed electrician per CSA. Easy UPS On-Line SRV always hard-wired by licensed electrician. Symmetra LX and Galaxy require commissioning by qualified Schneider-authorised technician — site survey recommended. Warranty (USA and Canada): SRT 3 years electronics + 2 years battery; SRV 2–3 years electronics + 1–2 years battery; Symmetra and Galaxy per service-contract terms. FAQ
SRT vs Easy UPS On-Line SRV?
Both online double-conversion. SRT is the established APC Smart-UPS SRT line — full PowerChute integration, AP9641 NMC standard on 5 kVA+, broader receptacle options. Easy UPS On-Line SRV is the cost-competitive on-line tier — fewer accessory options, hard-wired terminal, 230 V single-phase only. For SCADA / control-room with deep PowerChute integration, choose SRT. For straightforward on-line conditioning, SRV is typically lower-cost.
Galaxy V series — when to spec?
When upstream service is three-phase, when load exceeds ~20 kVA single-phase, or when integrated transformer step-down / step-up is required. Galaxy VS covers 10–150 kVA, Galaxy VL 200–500 kVA, Galaxy VX up to 1.5 MW. Always commissioned by Schneider — request a site survey before order.
Inrush handling on industrial loads?
SRT and Galaxy specify peak overload current and duration in their spec sheets. For motor-start inrush and solenoid pull-in, size the UPS against the worst-case transient — not just the steady-state nameplate. Our team can review your load profile and recommend the right SKU — replies within 1 business day.
Battery runtime for graceful PLC shutdown?
15–30 minutes is typical. SRT supports SRT72BP / SRT96BP external battery packs. SRV and Symmetra accept extended-runtime battery cabinets sized at order. Galaxy battery cabinets sized to ride-through requirement at install.
Network management?
AP9641 Network Management Card 3 standard on SRT 5 kVA and above; SmartSlot option on smaller SRT and on SRV. Provides SNMP v1/v2c/v3, web management, Modbus TCP — common requirement for SCADA / BMS integration.
Ambient temperature tolerance?
Standard SRT and SRV electronics rated to 40 °C ambient. Battery service life halves roughly every 8 °C above 25 °C — for hot industrial closets, plan battery replacement cycles tighter or specify Smart-UPS Ultra (SRTL) lithium-ion which tolerates higher ambient with less degradation.
Canadian warranty?
Yes — APC Smart-UPS SRT, Easy UPS On-Line SRV, Symmetra, and Galaxy factory warranty terms cover USA and Canada. Coordinated through our Canadian team. Shipped from our Canadian warehouse.
