What is a Liebert Vertiv UPS replacement battery?

Vertiv Liebert PSI5 and GXT5 UPS use sealed lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, replaced with a Vertiv battery kit, and take optional external battery cabinets (EBC) for more runtime. The GXT5 Lithium-Ion uses LiFePO₄ batteries in Vertiv VEBCLI-192VRT1U cabinets. Vertiv lists the kit and cabinet for each model in its data sheets.

Method 1: front-panel LCD

Aftermarket disclosure

How to replace

Current PSI5 and GXT5 batteries are hot-swappable, so the UPS keeps protecting the load. Check the user manual for your model. Typical procedure:

1. Order the correct PSI5 or GXT5 kit (check the model against the table above).
2. Slide the front bezel off.
3. Disconnect the polarised battery plug.
4. Slide old cartridge out, new one in.
5. Reconnect the plug until it clicks.
6. Replace the bezel.

External battery cabinets (extended runtime)

PSI5 RT models take the PSI5-24VBATT, PSI5-48VBATT or PSI5-72VBATT cabinet. GXT5 models up to 3 kVA take the GXT5-EBC36VRT2U, GXT5-EBC48VRT2U or GXT5-EBC72VRT2U, and the 6 and 10 kVA models the GXT5-EBC192VRT3U. The GXT5 Lithium-Ion takes up to 8 VEBCLI-192VRT1U cabinets, hot-swappable. Vertiv's runtime tables give the minutes per cabinet.

Vertiv lists the GXT5-9A48BATKIT replacement kit and the GXT5-EBC48VRT2U external cabinet for the GXT5-1500IRT2UXL. Verify on the unit label.

Aftermarket vs factory?

For in-warranty units: factory may be required. Out of warranty: a compatible set matched on voltage, capacity and connectors is the usual choice. GXT5 Lithium-Ion: Vertiv cabinets only.

Hot-swap?

Yes on current PSI5 and GXT5 models, per Vertiv. Check the user manual for your model.

External battery packs?

Yes. GXT5 takes GXT5-EBC cabinets, and PSI5 RT models take PSI5-24VBATT, PSI5-48VBATT or PSI5-72VBATT cabinets.

Lithium for GXT5?
